WHAT'S ON THE CALENDAR?
The months fly by. Stuff happens. Art spends time on the easel, gets framed, goes on view, comes down off the walls, finds forever homes, and even flies to the moon.
INTERMEZZO ON BREWSTER FLATS
Over the last couple of months, I have been working on two new paintings. They are both 36" x 48" oil paintings on wood panels. This one, Intermezzo on Brewster Flats, is nearly completed.
I love the bay side of Cape Cod, and especially the "flats" of Brewster. As the tides ebb and flow the waters can recede over a mile, revealing otherworldly ripples and stray footprints in the sand, raised sandbars, tidal pools and oyster beds.
My tents are back, too. Friends often take photos of the "original" striped tents on Chappaquiddick and send them to me!
THE FUTURE IS NOW ...
... is the working title for this one, still at an early stage of underpainting. Egrets remind us to stay calm, patient, and connected to our inner wisdom, even in times of chaos and stress. The full pink moon is a sign of renewal.
Thanks to Haley and Beth for posing for these paintings!
AND THE PAST IS THE PRESENT
In the past I created many large-scale pastels. Earth, pictured here, is from The Elements, a series of 50" x 42" pastels. They are also all self-portraits, so they have a special place in my heart.
I kept Earth, but all of the others - Air, two versions of Water, and Fire - are in private collections. Now they have all found homes. Earth was delivered to its new home in New York City in October.
MOON SHOT!
My work has been included in a number of exhibition catalogues and magazines recently. This week I learned that Tempest, one of my paintings in the Lunar Codex, will be featured in a coffee-table art book of a selection of artists archived on the moon.
This painting offers a metaphorical representation of adolescence - an era marked by magic, transformation, and turbulence. Its blend of realism and surrealism invites contemplation on the interplay between external turmoil and inner resilience, and on human beings faced with the power of nature.
A CALENDAR FOR YOU
My annual desktop calendars have a different painting for each month reproduced in full color, and they are always in demand. Any purchases of my work (from my website, or through R. Michelson Galleries or 33 Contemporary Gallery) will include a calendar!
Thank you for following my online journal. Many people find it interesting to see my work in progress - how an idea becomes a drawing, then slowly gains dimension as layers of paint are applied. It's been a busy fall inside and outside my studio, and you haven't heard a peep from me in over three months. That doesn't mean that stuff isn't happening!
Anyone can sign up here to get notified of my newest journal posts as soon as they are online. Do share this page with your friends.

Have a wonderful holiday season and I wish you a happy New Year!
