This Summer Rocks!

KNOWHERE ART GALLERY, OAK BLUFFS, MASSACHUSETTS

Martha's Vineyard is a special place. Some of my favorite summer memories include riding around the island in an old pickup truck, days at the beach on Chappaquiddick, fireworks over the ocean in Oak Bluffs, fried clams in Menemsha, and even the ferry ride from Woods Hole. An entire series of paintings - the tent series - originated from a snapshot I took of beach cabanas on Chappaquiddick and my island models, Syd and Cate, who graciously posed for me over several years.

I was very pleased to be invited to show at Knowhere Art Gallery in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard. Val Francis, the director, visited my studio last spring and selected four paintings for her summer-long exhibition, Women Rising. All of the work in this group show is terrific. If you're lucky enough to be on the Vineyard this summer, please stop by the gallery!

DANFORTH ART MUSEUM, FRAMINGHAM, MASSACHUSETTS

The Danforth Art Museum is one of New England's jewels, and always worth a visit. Especially now, while the prestigious 2025 Annual Juried Exhibition fills most of the museum's spaces with a selection of work by some of New England's finest artists. This is the first public showing of The Future Is Now, which I completed just a few months ago. I created a narrative voice-over about this painting, and you can listen to it when you visit the museum or download their app on your phone. I've had studio visits from Jessica Roscio, Director, and Rachel Passannante, Curator, so I feel I have a special connection with this museum.

33 CONTEMPORARY GALLERY, LAKE WORTH, FLORIDA. JULY 3 - AUGUST 22

Literature often informs my work, so this particular exhibit really fired my imagination! Inspired by the haunting beauty of Emily Dickinson’s words, this 12” x 12” oil on wood piece is a testament to life’s delicate interplay of hope and nature. Hope and Feathers is a journey into the enigmatic realms of soul and mystery. The woman is adorned in a raven-feathered mask that melds humanity with avian grace, where feathers and a beak draw a tale of transformation. Her gaze, turned away, invites you to ponder the secrets she holds and the hope that sustains her.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -

That perches in the soul -

And sings the tune without the words -

And never stops - at all -

- Emily Dickinson

FINE ART CONNOISSEUR MAGAZINE, JULY/AUGUST 2025

Under the Watchful Sky is the fifth work in my "Pink Moon" series (and it also has the striped tents!). I finished it in May, and it went right into the front window of R. Michelson Galleries in Northampton. It was also one of the paintings Fine Art Connoisseur selected for its feature story "Depicting the Sun & Moon". Under the Watchful Sky will be on display inside the gallery with a small grouping of my work during the summer.

MAIN STREET BANNERS, NORTHAMPTON, MASSACHUSETTS

My hometown of Northampton is known for its cultural chops. It seemed a no-brainer when the Northampton Center for the Arts came up with a downtown banner project, inviting area artists to submit their work to be printed on large banners and hung all along Main Street.

Benediction, one of my large pastels in a private collection, seemed to me the obvious choice for a banner. The brilliant colors, the iconic birds-eye view of the Connecticut River snaking through the valley, and the (literally) uplifting imagery will look awesome on a banner. Thank you, NCFA, for selecting it!

SUMMERTIME BECKONS!

The summer has just begun, and I look forward to working in my vegetable garden, heading to the beach and the city, getting together for dinner with friends, and using up all those juicy tomatoes that emerge in August. And all my flowerpots are planted!

Two more 48" X 36" wood panels are waiting to be primed, and the ideas are already flowing. By the time I get around to another journal entry, I should have more to share.

Let me know if you get to see any of these exhibitions and send me photos!

Thanks for following me.
