    Fire and Sky

    The sky is still red. In order to create the sky-blue-pink I see in my head, it's important to work on everything that juxtaposes it. That way, I can work back and forth between figures, ground and sky. There are always adjustments. Do the heads emerge strongly enough from the background color? Does the sky give a feeling of infinite distance? How do I make the tents almost ethereal, blending with the sky, but still real? Lots of questions. The bonfire on the beach is coming

    A New Platform

    January, February, March - it seemed to go by in a blur. A vacation, a shoulder injury and my "day job" at Paradise City Arts Festivals all conspired to limit my studio time. But this month I worked on "Speaking The Language of Birds" on the easel, and it's almost done. The final layers always bring a more three-dimensional aspect to any painting. And today I climbed up on my new platform to start working from the top on this very large new painting. It's a 4-foot by 2-foot b

    The Painting Began With a Massage

    Island time. When I'm away on vacation, a massage seems to be in order. This one took place in a tiny island cottage, open to the sand and sea. The filmy drapes around the open window gave glimpses of the sky through the translucent fabric. I knew there was a painting there. It took a year for it to become the backdrop of this painting. #island #massage #sea #sky
