Speaking the Language of Birds

I have included birds in my work for a long time. Each species of birds has a meaning - spiritual, mythological, scientific, even romantic. Flocks of them also have odd, descriptive names: an unkindness of ravens, a bevy of swans, a mischief of magpies, a mustering of storks, a phalanx of pelicans and, best of all, a flamboyance of flamingos!
In tropical places I have had face-to-face encounters with Roseate Spoonbills, pictured in this painting in progress. They are social creatures, and together they are called a "bowl" of spoonbills. They symbolize emotional balance, transformation and resourcefulness.

THE FUTURE IS NOW
Finished, photographed, soon to be varnished, and then it can go out into the world! I loved painting the figures in this piece, but I also wanted to examine the interplay between light, shadow, and the vivid colors that often compose our dreams.
In these challenging times, I see The Future Is Now as a visual testament to the magnetic pull of what lies ahead, urging us to pause and reflect upon the ever-unfolding horizon.
A "flight", "cloud", or "murmuration" of some of my painted birds, mostly minus their human companions. The words describing flocks of birds could fill a book.
SPEAKING THE LANGUAGE OF BIRDS
It seems like the perfect opportunity to reintroduce you to the painting that gave me today's journal title. Speaking the Language of Birds is 75" x 48", oil on linen. Sometimes my birds act as companions, other times as avatars of change, growth or escape. This talking seagull is central to the painting’s narrative.
NEW FINE ART PRINTS
Before a painting leaves my studio, I offer up signed, editioned, archival prints to my mailing list. The Future Is Now is one of the most accurate, lifelike prints I have. It is hand printed in a local photographer's studio on heavy rag paper.
You can order one from this brand-new edition, and it's 15% off now if you use the promo code FUTURE.
That's all, folks! Thanks for giving me a few minutes of your time, and I hope the visuals brightened up your day. If you are interested in collecting an original, or including my work in an exhibition, just email me. Some paintings are available only through my gallery representation, but I can make that connection for you.
